Saturday, March 7th, 2009: SP Martinez Lands with the Cubs
37-year-old starting pitcher Pedro Martinez has inked a deal with Chicago (N). Some scouts believe Martinez comes off as a little arrogant, and questions remain about whether he is really worth $2,750,000 over 1 year.

However, the team thinks that Martinez will be a solid contributor this season.

In his career Martinez has fanned 3198 batters and walked 781 in 2862.2 innings of work. His lifetime won-lost record is 219 victories and 107 defeats with a 2.88 ERA and opposing hitters have compiled a .212 against him.

Friday, March 6th, 2009: Chicago (N) and Minnesota Agree to Trade
The Chicago (N) Cubs have parted ways with 25-year old starting pitcher Jon Lester, 28-year old first baseman Micah Hoffpauir and 22-year old minor league second baseman Tony Thomas, sending him to the Minnesota Twins for 25-year old starting pitcher Francisco Liriano. The Cubs general manager confirmed the deal in an announcement this morning.

In his career-to-date, the 25-year-old Lester has fashioned a 25-11 mark, 4.32 ERA and thrown 358.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .265 lifetime against him and he has logged 296 total strikeouts.

Liriano's lifetime won-lost record is 22 wins and 15 losses with a 3.24 ERA.

Friday, March 6th, 2009: Chicago (N) and Cleveland Agree to Swap
The rumor has been going on for a while now, but today it was made official. The Chicago (N) Cubs sent $5,000,000 in cash to the Cleveland Indians for nothing.

Officials from both teams seem to be pleased with the deal.
