| Breaking News | | Thursday, September 4th, 2008: Giants Zito Blanks Braves "He was kind of teasing them with his offspeed stuff and his fastball was moving everywhere," the San Francisco skipper said in postgame comments after Barry Zito had shut out the Atlanta Braves 7-0 on a 3-hit masterpiece.
Zito numbered 8 strikeouts and issued 1 walk in a gem of a performance.
"We just didn't swing the bats very well . . . or he just pitched good, whichever way you want to look at it," complained the Atlanta manager after the defeat.
Checking out his stats for the season, Zito has notched 10 wins and 8 losses in 27 starts, 4.08 ERA and struck out 150 batters in 167.2 innings. | | Wednesday, August 6th, 2008: Velez Sizzles! Smokes Nationals for 5 Hits! What a day for Eugenio Velez of the San Francisco Giants! A 5-hit hitting spree! That doesn't happen everyday! He ripped Washington pitching apart at AT&T Park and sparked the Giants to a 4-3 victory. He wrote his name in the record books, finishing up his special day 5-6.
"I'm usually a first ball hitter," Velez told SION reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid that."
E. Velez singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, flied out in the 8th, singled in the 10th and hit an RBI double in the 12th.
Velez is batting at a .262 pace in 2008, picking up 94 hits in 359 at-bats with no home runs, 26 RBIs and 32 runs scored. | | Monday, August 4th, 2008: Schierholtz Socks It to Nationals, Cracks 5 Hits It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for Nate Schierholtz. It was very special day, one that many players never experience. But he did. Schierholtz went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off Washington pitching.
When the dust settled on the diamond at AT&T Park, he had a career 5-5 day and something he will long remember. And the San Francisco Giants had a 8-3 victory over the Nationals.
"Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but it won't get me a hit tomorrow," he laughed in the SION postgame interview.
N. Schierholtz singled in the 1st, hit a two-run triple in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off J. Rauch in the 8th.
This year Schierholtz is batting .282 with 90 hits and 12 home runs. He has scored 48 times and has batted in 48 runs. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record on the road | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 0-0, .000 PCT |
