Friday, March 27th, 2009: Felix Hernandez Hurt, Out of Action
After the end of today's game between Seattle and Boston, Felix Hernandez skipped the clubhouse and headed straight for the doctor's office. After he was removed from the game as a precaution after throwing a pitch, the Mariners had their worst fears confirmed when it turned out to be more serious. The starting pitcher will miss at least 8 weeks with a damaged meniscus.

Sunday, March 8th, 2009: Suzuki Hurt, Out of Lineup One Week
"It was kinda freaky. Hopefully, I'll be back in the lineup soon," said a dejected Ichiro Suzuki after injuring himself in a game against Cleveland. The Seattle manager told SION reporters, "He will miss up to one week with a strained abdominal muscle." The Mariners will have to decide over the next day or two whether the right fielder will go on the disabled list.

Thursday, November 13th, 2008: Hernandez Top Choice, Wins Cy Young Award
A sparkling 20-6 mark for the year just about says it all -- that's what Felix Hernandez of the Seattle Mariners put up this season. That's why the American League rated him the #1 hurler in the league and named him the 2008 Cy Young Award winner.

He held opposing clubs to a .244 batting average and compiled a 2.25 ERA. Hernandez stood out with 256 strikeouts while giving up 232 hits and 48 walks in 247.2 innings.

This weekend Hernandez will be honored by the SION Baseball Writers Association at its annual awards dinner.
