| Breaking News |  | Monday, October 6th, 2008: 2008 NWL Top Hitter Trophy Given to Carter His solid numbers speak for themselves. That's why Sam Carter of the Eugene Emeralds was named the Northwest League NWL MVP in 2008.
He completed this award-winning season with a .321 batting average, 80 hits, 12 home runs, 57 RBIs, .451 OBP and 51 runs scored.
This weekend the SION Baseball Writers Association will present the trophy to Carter for being the NWL's top-rated batter. He will receive it at the SBWA's annual awards dinner. |  | Monday, September 22nd, 2008: Hawks Win! Hawks Win! The celebrations have begun. The streets are alive with people and the confetti is flying. The Boise Hawks have done it -- they won the 2008 Round 1. The Hawks defeated the Eugene Emeralds 2-1 at Memorial Stadium to take the title. Boise took the series 3-2 for their 1st Northwest League championship.
After the game, the victorious Hawks manager told the secret to his team's great season and Round 1 triumph, "The harder you work, the luckier you get," he said. "As far as I'm concerned, I'm the luckiest guy in the world today."
The new champions finished first in the regular season with a 54-22 record in the East Division. |  | Thursday, September 11th, 2008: Sansoe Batters Salem-Keizer for 5 Hits 5 hits in a game doesn't happen every day. Eugene's Mike Sansoe had a very special day against the Volcanoes when everything came together for him and he did just that -- collected 5 hits in 7 at-bats -- and led the Eugene Emeralds to a 29-4 win at Eugene Civic Stadium.
"I'm just out there to try and help the team win," Sansoe said after the game, "I had some real good at-bats today. I made good, solid contact and luckily no one caught 'em."
M. Sansoe singled in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, hit a two-run single in the 3rd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, flied out in the 8th, walked in the 9th and hit a three-run home run off M. McMurtry in the 9th.
