|  | Wednesday, December 10th, 2008: Padres Deal Young to Red Sox for Beckett The San Diego Padres have finalized a deal with the Boston Red Sox for the services of 28-year old starting pitcher Josh Beckett, 28-year old starting pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka and 29-year old closer Jose Valverde. In exchange, the Red Sox will receive 29-year old starting pitcher Chris Young, 26-year old minor league starting pitcher Justin Germano, 25-year old starting pitcher Wade LeBlanc, 32-year old left fielder Carlos Lee and 25-year old minor league shortstop Andrew Pinckney.
Lifetime Young has compiled a 51-32 record with a 3.88 ERA in 131 starts.
Since his debut in the league, Beckett has posted 92 victories and 60 defeats with an ERA of 3.78. |  | Thursday, November 13th, 2008: NL Awards Outstanding Pitcher Trophy This season when the San Diego manager wrote the name "Peavy" on the lineup card, he was pretty confident that he would get a good start out of him.
Outing after outing Jake Peavy took command and usually got the win. He dominated with a 20-4 mark and a 2.24 ERA in 33 starts, piling up 233 innings and 280 strikeouts and holding other ballclubs to a .209 batting average.
For his superb performance Peavy was named the NL Cy Young Award winner by the baseball writers.
