Wednesday, October 1st, 2008: Melillo Voted September's Top Rookie
Kevin Melillo put up eye-catching numbers in September to earn himself the American League Rookie of the Month Award.

The second baseman for the Oakland Athletics batted .280 with 2 home runs, 13 RBIs and 17 runs scored as he proved he does deserve to play in the American League.

Melillo is currently hitting at a .236 pace with 11 home runs and 66 RBIs.

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008: Athletics Pitching Ravaged by Pierre
Juan Pierre really sizzled at the plate in today's 16-2 win over Athletics. The Cleveland left fielder blistered Oakland for 5 hits in 5 at-bats.

"Pierre was too tough to get out today," the Athletics skipper said in the postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too."

J. Pierre singled in the 1st, tripled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and walked in the 8th.

This season Pierre has no home runs and a .311 batting average.

Jack Hannahan finds himself in the American League spotlight today after his impossible-to-ignore performance last week. He carried the Oakland Athletics on his shoulders, earning American League Player of the Week honors.

The 28-year-old hit .533 (8-15) with 3 home runs and 4 RBI.

Thus far in 2008 Hannahan is hitting .233 with 8 home runs, 47 RBIs, 47 runs scored and has compiled a .320 OBP.
