"I wasn't always confident at the start of a game," said Zambrano. "Sometimes it's hard to get into the flow -- the calls aren't going your way or you're trying to spot your pitches too much. You just have to relax and use what you've been taught all your life -- get back to basics -- good mechanics, control, location, keep the ball down."
The 33-year-old tossed 47.2 innings of quality baseball -- going 4-2 with a 1.13 ERA and 32 strikeouts.
This season Zambrano has a 12-8 mark in 26 starts with a 2.17 ERA. He has given up 135 hits in 169.2 innings, struck out 139 and issued 48 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .215 batting average against him. | | Saturday, August 9th, 2008: Quad Cities No Match for Zambrano Victor Zambrano was in command in his outing against the Quad Cities Swing. He hurled the Clinton Lumber Kings to a 4-0 shutout victory, yielded 4 hits and chalked up 3 strikeouts and 1 walk.
"A complete game shutout. That's fun territory for me," he told reporters in the postgame interview. "I had good balance and mechanics and was able to keep the ball down. When I do that, good things happen."
This year Zambrano has gone 10-6 with an ERA of 2.36 and has 115 strikeouts in 141.1 innings. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Wes Obermueller | ruptured ulnar collateral ligament (elbow) | 3 months | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record on the road | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 0-0, .000 PCT |
