| Breaking News | | Monday, August 25th, 2008: 5-5 Game for Berezay During a player's career, there are days that stand out, and this day was definitely special! Matt Berezay went 5 for 5 against the West Michigan Whitecaps at Dow Diamond and the Loons picked up a 9-4 victory.
He exclaimed, "What a day! We win and I get 5 hits! Couldn't be better!" The delighted left fielder was really enjoying the happiness of the moment in the press room.
"He was patient up there today," the Great Lakes skipper told the press after the game. "I like the way he waited for his pitch and wasn't overly agressive. Berezay has a tendency to go after some bad balls sometimes."
M. Berezay hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and doubled in the 9th.
This year Berezay is batting .262 with 11 home runs. | | Monday, August 25th, 2008: 5 Hits for Loons Martin "It was like I was hitting little league pitching," said John Martin after his 5-hit performance against the Whitecaps. "No offense meant to West Michigan, but I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Dow Diamond!"
The Great Lakes catcher had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 6 at-bats and pacing his club to a 9-4 victory.
His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "John worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."
"That's what I'm trying to do," Martin said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
J. Martin singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, tripled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th.
This year Martin has hit at a .263 clip with 38 RBIs, 7 home runs and 50 runs scored. | | Friday, August 8th, 2008: Harrison Pitches Lansing to Shutout Win Benjamin Harrison had an impressive outing today.
