Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008: Manship Magnificent in South Bend Win
Beloit was pleased to see so many goose eggs up on the scoreboard today as Jeff Manship blanked South Bend 4-0. He stopped them on 5 hits with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.

His skipper said, "Once he gets in a groove, he can be dynamite. He was on top of his game in this one."

This season Manship has 14 wins and 4 losses and a 2.61 ERA.

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008: González Cracks 5 Hits
Players get multi-hit games all the time. But a 5-hit game only comes around once in a blue moon. It happened at Oldsmobile Park when José González of Lansing scattered 5 hits all over the ballpark against the South Bend Silver Hawks.

He walloped 5 hits in 7 at-bats in his career-day performance to help the Lugnuts get by the Silver Hawks 4-3.

In a talkative and jovial mood after the game, the left fielder of the Lugnuts exclaimed, "Whoa, my swing was really, really there today. I made some good, sweet-spot contact and when that happens...good things happen...like 5-7. I could get used to a lot of days like this one."

J. González singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, struck out in the 9th, singled in the 11th and flied out in the 12th.

In 107 games this year González has posted a .280 average and put up these numbers: 3 home runs, 26 RBIs and 55 runs scored.

Monday, August 4th, 2008: Varnell Mystifies South Bend
Grant Varnell of the Fort Wayne Wizards blanked South Bend 1-0 on a 5-hit complete game shutout, striking out 6 batters and walking 1.

This season Varnell has been credited with no saves. In no relief appearances and 143 innings he has a 10-7 won-lost mark, 2.64 ERA and 65 strikeouts
