Matt Huff of the Fort Wayne Wizards was one tough customer on the hill today. He blanked the Lansing Lugnuts 5-0 on 2 hits, registering 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.
"When he's on, he's tough to hit," said the Lansing manager after the game. "He's just a bulldog out there."
In 27 starts this year Huff has fashioned a 10-10 record and a 3.54 ERA.

| Friday, August 22nd, 2008: Varnell Fashions Shutout Against Lansing
"I had everything working for me out there. I used every one of my pitches, hit both sides of the plate really well and felt like I could do whatever I wanted."
With stuff like that, it was easy for Grant Varnell of the Wizards to handcuff the Lugnuts 7-0 and come away with a complete game 4-hit shutout. He recorded 5 strikeouts and no walks in an impressive performance.
To date in the 2008 season, Varnell is 12-8 with no relief appearances and no saves. He has held opposing batters to a .232 average, pitched 164.2 innings, struck out 76 and walked 27 while recording a 2.62 ERA.

 | Thursday, August 14th, 2008: Aguilar Goes 5-6 Against Great Lakes
Heliezer Aguilar was on fire today and sparked his club to a 13-2 victory over the Loons. The Lansing left fielder was a tough out and went 5 for 6 against Great Lakes in a fine hitting display.
"I got my pitches and I connected. They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody...and some days they fall in."
H. Aguilar grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Z. Hammes in the 8th.
Looking at his stats this year, Aguilar has compiled a .269 batting average, while hitting 1 home run and driving in 38 runs. He has played in 107 games and scored 42 runs.
