Monday, September 8th, 2008: Midwest League Hitter of the Week
Today the Midwest League announced its Player of the Week Award winner -- Fort Wayne Wizards left fielder Michael Wagner, who batted .360 (9-25) with 3 home runs, 7 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

Presently Wagner is batting .266 with 15 home runs and 64 RBIs. He has played in 125 games and scored 47 times.

Monday, August 25th, 2008: Huff Shuts Out Lugnuts
Matt Huff of the Fort Wayne Wizards was one tough customer on the hill today. He blanked the Lansing Lugnuts 5-0 on 2 hits, registering 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.

"When he's on, he's tough to hit," said the Lansing manager after the game. "He's just a bulldog out there."

In 27 starts this year Huff has fashioned a 10-10 record and a 3.54 ERA.

Friday, August 22nd, 2008: Varnell Fashions Shutout Against Lansing
"I had everything working for me out there. I used every one of my pitches, hit both sides of the plate really well and felt like I could do whatever I wanted."

With stuff like that, it was easy for Grant Varnell of the Wizards to handcuff the Lugnuts 7-0 and come away with a complete game 4-hit shutout. He recorded 5 strikeouts and no walks in an impressive performance.

To date in the 2008 season, Varnell is 12-8 with no relief appearances and no saves. He has held opposing batters to a .232 average, pitched 164.2 innings, struck out 76 and walked 27 while recording a 2.62 ERA.
