Monday, August 25th, 2008: Great Stroke! Villa Gets 5 Hits!
What a day for Jaime Villa of the Palm Beach Cardinals! A 5-hit hitting spree! That doesn't happen everyday! He ripped St. Lucie pitching apart at Palm Beach Stadium and sparked the Cardinals to a 10-9 victory. He wrote his name in the record books, finishing up his special day 5-5.

"I'm usually a first ball hitter," Villa told SION reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid that."

J. Villa hit an RBI double in the 2nd, doubled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

This year Villa is batting .297 with no home runs. He has scored 51 runs and driven in 37.
Monday, August 25th, 2008: FSL Premier Player Picked
The Player of the Week has been chosen by the Florida State League. The award went to Garrett Bussiere, first baseman of the Palm Beach Cardinals.

In a sensational hitting performance, he wrecked league pitchers with a .409 average to win the honor. Bussiere went 9-22 for the week, totaled 2 home runs and 5 RBIs and scored 5 times.

During the 2008 season Bussiere has hit .305 with 15 home runs and 50 RBIs. He has played in 123 games and scored 73 times.
Monday, August 4th, 2008: FSL's Star Player Named
Palm Beach fans have something to crow about today as Palm Beach third baseman Allen Craig nabbed the Florida State League Player of the Week Award for his performance over the last seven days.

"I know there are times when it's hard to lay off pitches. Everyone goes through stretches when he's too eager to put the ball in play. You know, though, I feel like this past week I was able to get in the right frame of mind and just let things come naturally," said Craig.

He posted a .448 average (13-29) this past week with 2 home runs, 6 RBIs, and 4 runs scored.

Craig is currently hitting at a .260 pace with 7 home runs and 50 RBIs.
