| Breaking News | | Thursday, September 25th, 2008: Nationals Top Indians in Round 2 The Potomac faithful were cheering in the streets and the Kinston fans were crying in their beer -- The Nationals won the Round 2. They clinched it by knocking off the Indians 3-1 to take their 1st Carolina League crown. Potomac took the series 4-2.
"This club never gave up all year long. They believed they could win the title and they did," the victorious skipper told the press.
"We just didn't play well enough to win," the Indians manager lamented, "We just didn't make the big plays like they did."
On the way to the Round 2 title Potomac compiled a 87-53 won-loss record and finished first in the Northern Division. | | Friday, September 19th, 2008: Potomac Whitewashes Kinston "That was one of my best outings," said Collin Balester. "I was worried a lot in the bullpen. My ball wasn't quite right. Luckily, it can be two different worlds -- the bullpen and the game. Once I stepped on the field, it all fell into place."
It was an impressive start for the Nationals hurler. He blanked the Indians 2-0 on a strong 4-hitter while ringing up 6 strikeouts and doling out no walks.
In the 2008 season Balester has 14 wins and 5 losses and a 2.17 ERA. | | Wednesday, September 10th, 2008: Erbe Hurls Perfect Game against Kinston! Over the course of baseball history, some moments stand a little taller than others. One of those moments happened today at Harry Grove Stadium. Brandon Erbe of the Frederick Keys beat the Indians 3-0 and threw a perfect game.
He dominated Kinston in a way rarely seen. By the end of the game, he had rung up 8 Kinston hitters on strikeouts, showed superb control in not allowing a single walk and did not even allow a base hit. There were no errors, either. No one got on base.
The fans gave Brandon Erbe a well-deserved standing ovation as he left the mound. They knew they had witnessed one of the rariest events in baseball.
Erbe told reporters in the postgame press conference that he never dreamed of throwing a perfect game. "As a kid, you always think of pitching to win the final game of a championship," Erbe said. "You never think of pitching a perfect game, because it just seems unattainable. I'll remember this day for the rest of my life."
In 2008 thus far, Erbe has tossed 209.1 innings in 31 starts, fanned 194 batters, walked 48 and put up a 3.10 ERA with 16 wins and 7 losses. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P William Delage | back spasms | 2-3 months | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record on the road | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 0-0, .000 PCT |
