Thursday, October 9th, 2008: Mortimer Tops Best Hitter List
Steve Mortimer of the Potomac Nationals had a season to remember this year.
Today was named the CAR's CAR MVP for 2008.

The 21-year-old first baseman put up a .280 average and .382 on-base percentage, piling up 129 hits, 17 doubles, no triples, 12 home runs, 55 RBIs and 58 runs scored.

For being named the CAR's best batter Mortimer will be honored this weekend at the annual SION Baseball Writers awards banquet.

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008: Detwiler Scores CAR Best Hurler Honors
The 2008 Carolina League CAR Pitcher of the Year has gone to Potomac Nationals ace Ross Detwiler after a stellar 17-7 season.

In 31 starts he notched 223 innings, 148 strikeouts and a 2.42 ERA. Detwiler held opposing hitters to a .204 batting average, walking 57.

The SION Baseball Writers Association will present his trophy to him at the annual gathering this weekend.

Thursday, September 25th, 2008: Nationals Top Indians in Round 2
The Potomac faithful were cheering in the streets and the Kinston fans were crying in their beer -- The Nationals won the Round 2. They clinched it by knocking off the Indians 3-1 to take their 1st Carolina League crown. Potomac took the series 4-2.

"This club never gave up all year long. They believed they could win the title and they did," the victorious skipper told the press.

"We just didn't play well enough to win," the Indians manager lamented, "We just didn't make the big plays like they did."

On the way to the Round 2 title Potomac compiled a 87-53 won-loss record and finished first in the Northern Division.
