| Breaking News | | Wednesday, September 10th, 2008: Erbe Hurls Perfect Game against Kinston! Over the course of baseball history, some moments stand a little taller than others. One of those moments happened today at Harry Grove Stadium. Brandon Erbe of the Frederick Keys beat the Indians 3-0 and threw a perfect game.
He dominated Kinston in a way rarely seen. By the end of the game, he had rung up 8 Kinston hitters on strikeouts, showed superb control in not allowing a single walk and did not even allow a base hit. There were no errors, either. No one got on base.
The fans gave Brandon Erbe a well-deserved standing ovation as he left the mound. They knew they had witnessed one of the rariest events in baseball.
Erbe told reporters in the postgame press conference that he never dreamed of throwing a perfect game. "As a kid, you always think of pitching to win the final game of a championship," Erbe said. "You never think of pitching a perfect game, because it just seems unattainable. I'll remember this day for the rest of my life."
In 2008 thus far, Erbe has tossed 209.1 innings in 31 starts, fanned 194 batters, walked 48 and put up a 3.10 ERA with 16 wins and 7 losses. | | Monday, September 8th, 2008: Nowicki Honored by Carolina League The Carolina League has chosen Joseph Nowicki of the Frederick Keys as Player of the Week.
What a week Nowicki had. He hit .550 (11-20) with 2 home runs, 7 RBIs and 4 runs scored.
In 2008 Nowicki is batting .287 with 129 hits, 5 home runs, 43 RBIs, 30 walks, .328 OBP and has scored 49 runs. He has played in 127 games. | | Monday, August 25th, 2008: Hot Hurler Chills Out on Keys Erik Stiller was in command in his outing against the Frederick Keys. He hurled the Kinston Indians to a 1-0 shutout victory, yielded 5 hits and chalked up 2 strikeouts and 1 walk.
"A complete game shutout. That's fun territory for me," he told reporters in the postgame interview. "I had good balance and mechanics and was able to keep the ball down. When I do that, good things happen."
To date this season, Stiller has a record of 11 wins and 6 losses and a 2.51 ERA. He has appeared in 19 games and struck out 48 in 136 innings. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Juan Escorcha | bone chips (elbow) | 2-3 months | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record on the road | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 0-0, .000 PCT |
