Wednesday, October 8th, 2008: Best Hurler Award Presented by CAL
What does it take to win the CAL PItcher of the Year?
Just ask Roger Deago of the Lake Elsinore Storm -- the latest California League CAL PItcher of the Year winner.

"My dad always told me dream big and dream always," he said. "It's not like I shoot for the CAL PItcher of the Year," he said. "I have big aspirations of what I want to do in this game and what I want to achieve in a long career. This was one of my goals."

The Storm pitching ace certainly dreamed big this year, winning 17 games and losing only 6. In 28 starts Deago registered a 2.64 ERA and limited other clubs to a .213 batting average. He fanned 172 in 194 innings and issued 68 walks.

This weekend Deago will be honored by the SION Baseball Writers Association at its annual awards dinner.
Thursday, September 25th, 2008: Lake Elsinore Defeats Stockton
How does it feel to win the Round 2?

"It's strange. Weird," is the way the Lake Elsinore manager put it. "Like it was supposed to happen. Whenever something did happen, it didn't surprise us. We truly believed we would win."

Today at Lake Elsinore Diamond, Lake Elsinore completed its magical run to the Round 2 title with a 5-2 triumph over the Stockton Ports. It was the 1st time they have won it all. In the regular season, Lake Elsinore notched a 86-54 mark and took first place in the South Division standings.

And how does it feel to lose the Round 2?

"Your heart is heavy and your stomach is empty" is the way the dejected Stockton skipper described it. "It's the lowest of lows, when you lose...and the highest of highs, when you win."
Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008: Big Day with Bat, McDougall 5-6
The Storm whipped the Ports 16-1 at Lake Elsinore Diamond and Marshall McDougall had a big hand in the win. The Storm third baseman came to the plate 6 times and collected 5 hits. It was a good day for McDougall and a tough day for Stockton.

"I just go up there and whale away and hope it hits the barrel of the bat," he said. "There really isn't any plan."

Plan or not, McDougall delivered today -- 5-6 is outstanding in any league.

M. McDougall singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 3rd, hit a three-run double in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off S. Sharpe in the 6th and flied out in the 8th.

Thus far this season McDougall has hit .247 with 3 home runs, 50 RBIs and scored 58 times.
