Thursday, October 9th, 2008: California League Names #1 Hitter
Today the California League announced the 2008 CAL MVP. This year's honoree is Inland Empire's outstanding shortstop Brandon Wood. When he stepped into the batter's box this season, it usually was bad news for pitchers.

Wood hammered them long and hard, finishing up the year with a .305 batting average, 154 hits, 20 home runs, 82 RBIs, .382 OBP and scored 69 times.

This weekend the SBWA will host its annual awards dinner and all of the major winners will be there to receive their trophies for their outstanding achievements this past season.

Monday, September 1st, 2008: Wood Takes Best Bat Trophy in August
In August, Brandon Wood beat the baseball like a drum the entire month and netted the California League Batter of the Month award.

In 27 games the Inland Empire shortstop hit .344 with 3 home runs, 15 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

So far this year in 121 games Wood is hitting .308 with 18 home runs, 76 RBIs and 65 runs scored.

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008: Valdez Bewilders 66ers in Shutout
San Jose rode the magical arm of Jose Valdez in a 3-0 shutout win over Inland Empire. He shackled them on 5 hits and fanned 9. Almost to a man, the Inland Empire 66ers said he had them guessing wrong all game long.

This season Valdez has compiled a 8-8 record with a 3.09 ERA.
