| Breaking News | | Thursday, September 25th, 2008: Lake Elsinore Defeats Stockton How does it feel to win the Round 2?
"It's strange. Weird," is the way the Lake Elsinore manager put it. "Like it was supposed to happen. Whenever something did happen, it didn't surprise us. We truly believed we would win."
Today at Lake Elsinore Diamond, Lake Elsinore completed its magical run to the Round 2 title with a 5-2 triumph over the Stockton Ports. It was the 1st time they have won it all. In the regular season, Lake Elsinore notched a 86-54 mark and took first place in the South Division standings.
And how does it feel to lose the Round 2?
"Your heart is heavy and your stomach is empty" is the way the dejected Stockton skipper described it. "It's the lowest of lows, when you lose...and the highest of highs, when you win." | | Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008: Big Day with Bat, McDougall 5-6 The Storm whipped the Ports 16-1 at Lake Elsinore Diamond and Marshall McDougall had a big hand in the win. The Storm third baseman came to the plate 6 times and collected 5 hits. It was a good day for McDougall and a tough day for Stockton.
"I just go up there and whale away and hope it hits the barrel of the bat," he said. "There really isn't any plan."
Plan or not, McDougall delivered today -- 5-6 is outstanding in any league.
M. McDougall singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 3rd, hit a three-run double in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off S. Sharpe in the 6th and flied out in the 8th.
Thus far this season McDougall has hit .247 with 3 home runs, 50 RBIs and scored 58 times. | | Sunday, August 24th, 2008: Madsen Dominates, Whitewashes Blaze "That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," the Ports manager told reporters after today's game.
The Blaze ran into a buzzsaw as Michael Madsen cut them down to size 4-0 with a 6-hit shutout.
His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one."
In the complete game whitewash the Stockton hurler doled out no walks and registered 6 strikeouts.
In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "Michael goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be."
Madsen also got some praise from the Bakersfield manager.
"He really kept us in check today. Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away... we took some pathetic swings."
So far this season Madsen has a 12-11 record with a 2.64 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record on the road | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 0-0, .000 PCT |
