Monday, October 6th, 2008: River Cats Star Receives PCL Pitcher of the Year
The stars will be shining brightly this weekend at the SION Baseball Writers Association annual awards dinner. All of the major award winners will be there to be honored for their outstanding achievements in the 2008 season. One of them will be Dana Eveland of the Sacramento River Cats, who will receive the Pacific Coast League PCL Pitcher of the Year.

He was the league's premier pitcher this past season with a 17-5 mark. He started 29 games, hurled 191.1 innings, fanned 205 strikeouts and crafted a 1.98 ERA. The 24-year-old River Cats ace also held opponents to a .169 average.

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008: River Cats Win Round 2
"Anticipatin' celebratin'" was the Sacramento clubhouse slogan for the Round 2 this year -- and celebrate they did, when they beat the Portland Beavers 4-1 in the series.

The River Cats won the deciding game today 9-7 at Raley Field for their 1st Pacific Coast League crown.

During the 2008 regular season, they registered a 78-66 mark and finished first in the Pacific South race.

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008: Espineli Fires Shutout in Grizzlies Win
Eugene Espineli had the Sacramento River Cats dancing to his tune today with a sparkling 2-0 shutout performance for the Fresno Grizzlies. He gave up 3 hits and collected 1 walk and 6 strikeouts.

Sacramento hitters were bewildered throughout the game by his delivery.

The opposing manager said, "When you face a guy who hides the ball like he does, it takes a couple of at-bats to try to find his release point. We just never figured him out."

This season-to-date Espineli has 10 wins and 10 losses and a 4.17 ERA.
