| Breaking News |  | Thursday, September 4th, 2008: Hot Bat of Balentien Burns Cubs Wladimir Balentien was on fire today and sparked his club to a 11-6 victory over the Cubs. The Omaha right fielder was a tough out and went 5 for 5 against Iowa in a fine hitting display.
"I got my pitches and I connected. They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody...and some days they fall in."
W. Balentien hit a solo-shot off J. Mathes in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and doubled in the 8th.
Thus far in 2008 Balentien is hitting .287 with 20 home runs, 58 RBIs, 65 runs scored and has compiled a .365 OBP. | _Cubs.jpg) | Monday, September 1st, 2008: Pacific Coast League Announces Top Starter Which Pacific Coast League hurler dominated in the month of August? According to the voters who decide the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Month award, it was Sean Marshall of the Iowa Cubs.
He put together a record of 4-1 with an ERA of 2.05 in 6 starting assignments. In addition, he struck out 40 in 44 innings.
In 31 starts this season Marshall has recorded a 18-5 record and a 2.55 ERA. |  | Wednesday, August 20th, 2008: Albuquerque Blanks Cubs, Trahern Wins The Iowa Cubs struggled at the plate today against Isotopes hurler Dallas Trahern, who shackled them on 6 hits while hurling a complete game 4-0 shutout.
"What can you say? We didn't hit well," said the Cubs skipper in his postgame comments.
"Hopefully we shake this off and bounce back tomorrow."
Trahern finished the game with 9 strikeouts and no walks in an excellent mound performance.
"He pitched real well," his manager said. "Dallas made pitches when he had to. He hit his spots and did a great job of mixing in his changeup and using his fastball effectively."
So far this year Trahern has made 25 starts, tossed 179 innings, struck out 118 batters and walked 26.
