It was a season to remember for Chris Vinyard -- and one for opposing pitchers to forget. The first baseman for Norfolk has claimed the 2008 IL MVP after tearing up the league with a .268 batting average.
Vinyard rang up 142 hits, 39 doubles, 1 triple, 21 home runs, 93 RBIs and 75 runs scored. He also posted a .351 on-base percentage in his award-winning season.
The annual SBWA awards dinner is this weekend. All of the major award winners will be there to receive their trophies for their outstanding achievements this past season.

| Monday, September 8th, 2008: Roberson Week's Best Player
Norfolk Tides right fielder Chris Roberson, at the top of his game all last week, was a consensus choice today for International League Player of the Week.
He victimized opposing pitchers for a .583 batting average on 14 hits in 24 at-bats, piling up 2 home runs, 9 RBIs and 6 runs scored.
Hitting .270 to date, Roberson has 11 home runs and 78 RBIs. He has played in 129 games.

| Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008: Roberson Socks It to Bulls, Cracks 5 Hits
History in the making. That's what the fans at Harbor Park got to see today, when Norfolk outplayed the Bulls 8-2. Chris Roberson of the Tides came to the plate 5 times and came away with a dynamite day as he exploded for 5 hits against Durham.
In the postgame press conference the Durham skipper quipped to reporters, "Hey, we tried to get him out. We threw everything but the kitchen sink against him and he hit it. Maybe we should've thrown the kitchen sink."
C. Roberson doubled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off G. Glover in the 7th and hit a two-run double in the 8th.
Roberson is batting .267 in 2008 with 11 home runs, 76 RBIs and 74 runs scored. He has 131 hits in 491 at-bats.
