As fascinating as the offseason can be, it never matches that feeling of anticipation as clubs take the field once again, preparing to embark on a campaign for the 2009 title. |  | Friday, October 10th, 2008: Pulley Selected SALLY's #1 Batter The votes have been tallied and the winner of the South Atlantic League SALLY MVP has been named. It was awarded earlier today to Matthew Pulley from Delmarva for his great year at the plate.
He put up some impressive numbers, including a .333 batting average and .402 on-base percentage this year while racking up 34 doubles, 1 triple, 23 home runs, 86 RBIs and 83 runs scored.
For being named the SALLY's premier hitter Pulley will be honored at the SION Baseball Writers awards banquet this weekend. |  | Thursday, October 9th, 2008: South Atlantic League Top Pitcher Selected Zachary Kroenke of the Charleston RiverDogs had an extraordinary 16-6 season in 2008 and claimed the South Atlantic League SALLY Pitcher of the Year.
He started 29 times, threw 216.2 innings, while collecting 91 strikeouts and a 1.83 ERA. Kroenke allowed only 184 hits, 71 walks and a .228 batting average.
The SION Baseball Writers Association will present his trophy to him at the annual gathering this weekend. | | | | |
