The preseason officially kicks off today, and spring training and exhibition games will be taking place in the run-up to Opening Day. General managers will be tweaking their rosters right up until the first pitch of the regular season is thrown. |  | Tuesday, October 7th, 2008: Botts Honored, 2008 PCL PCL MVP The top votegetter in this year's Pacific Coast League PCL MVP balloting was Jason Botts, the outstanding Oklahoma left fielder.
He finished the season with a .307 batting average, 166 hits, 13 home runs, 71 RBIs, .398 OBP and 95 runs scored.
This weekend the SION Baseball Writers Association will present the trophy to Botts for being the PCL's top-rated batter. He will receive it at the group's annual awards dinner. |  | Monday, October 6th, 2008: River Cats Star Receives PCL Pitcher of the Year The stars will be shining brightly this weekend at the SION Baseball Writers Association annual awards dinner. All of the major award winners will be there to be honored for their outstanding achievements in the 2008 season. One of them will be Dana Eveland of the Sacramento River Cats, who will receive the Pacific Coast League PCL Pitcher of the Year.
He was the league's premier pitcher this past season with a 17-5 mark. He started 29 games, hurled 191.1 innings, fanned 205 strikeouts and crafted a 1.98 ERA. The 24-year-old River Cats ace also held opponents to a .169 average. | | | | |
