The preseason is under way, and clubs across the league will be headed off to spring training and exhibition play soon, followed shortly thereafter by the start of the regular season. |  | Friday, October 10th, 2008: Best Batter Named by International League It was a season to remember for Chris Vinyard -- and one for opposing pitchers to forget. The first baseman for Norfolk has claimed the 2008 IL MVP after tearing up the league with a .268 batting average.
Vinyard rang up 142 hits, 39 doubles, 1 triple, 21 home runs, 93 RBIs and 75 runs scored. He also posted a .351 on-base percentage in his award-winning season.
The annual SBWA awards dinner is this weekend. All of the major award winners will be there to receive their trophies for their outstanding achievements this past season. |  | Thursday, October 9th, 2008: Sky Chiefs Ace, IL Pitcher of the Year Winner Davis Romero had a terrific 2008 season in the International League. The Syracuse pitching stalwart received the most votes and has been proclaimed this year's IL Pitcher of the Year winner.
The Sky Chiefs ace starred with an impressive 20-7 record. In 34 starts he gave up 200 base hits and struck out 137 in 213.2 innings with a 2.86 ERA. Teams could only hit .248 against him.
