Major League Baseball News Article | | _White_Sox.jpg) | Thursday, September 11th, 2008: Owens Torches Indians for 5 Hits What a day for Jerry Owens of the Chicago (A) White Sox! A 5-hit hitting spree! That doesn't happen everyday! He ripped Cleveland pitching apart at U.S. Cellular Field and sparked the White Sox to a 6-5 victory. He wrote his name in the record books, finishing up his special day 5-6.
"I'm usually a first ball hitter," Owens told SION reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid that."
J. Owens singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, grounded out in the 9th and hit a solo-shot off R. Betancourt in the 11th.
This season Owens is hitting .276 with 3 home runs. | |
