Major League Baseball News Article | | | Tuesday, August 26th, 2008: Sheffield 5-7 Against White Sox All game long Detroit's Gary Sheffield was rattling the walls at Comerica Park and banging out base hits against the Chicago (A) White Sox and when the dust finally settled on the diamond, he had a career day, a 5-hit day, but no victory. The White Sox defeated the Tigers 11-10 to take a little of the glitter of the occasion away.
Speaking with reporters after his standout performance, the 39-year-old designated hitter lamented, "To get 5 hits and win a ballgame, that would have been a very special day. But we didn't win today. It's not easy to be happy when you lose. Only losers do that."
In all, Sheffield collected 5 hits in 7 at-bats and a spot in the record book.
G. Sheffield hit a solo-shot off G. Floyd in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th, singled in the 9th and singled in the 12th.
This year Sheffield has hit at a .252 pace and produced 62 RBIs, 21 home runs and scored 97 runs. | |
